A sunset breaks low across the horizon, and its colour runs down through the water in long, soft reflections of salmon, deep blue and teal. The sky is built up in thick, textured layers of white and grey, in contrast with the smooth, vertical brushwork below. The piece began as a bold underpainting of teal and pink, and you can still see those first colors at the edges and in the reflections.
